Roundhay Hall history - 'Physio Centre'
The physiotherapy department is located in Roundhay Hall at Spire Leeds Hospital. The Hall was built in c.1835 for John Goodman. It was bought in 1916 by Edward Allen, Lord Brotherton. He had been Lord Mayor of Leeds
in 1913-14 and was knighted in 1918.
He was created Baron Brotherton of Wakefield in 1929 and died in 1930. He had donated £200,000 to Leeds University between 1927 and his death, and he laid the foundation stone for the Brotherton Library in his last public ceremony in June 1930. The Brotherton Collection of books was presented to the University in 1935.
Roundhay Hall later became an NHS hospital for women before becoming a BUPA hospital in the late 1980s and Spire Leeds Hospital in October 2007.
Roundhay Hall provides spacious pleasant surroundings in which you will be treated. There is also a comfortable waiting area for friends or family to wait if they have accompanied you for your appointment. A porter can be requested at main reception to assist you to the department if a wheelchair is required. Our facilities include two well equipped gymnasiums where we offer a range of services including cardiac and pulmonary classes and orthopaedic rehabilitation. We have a treatment room and a private treatment area as well as an outdoor area for more advanced rehabilitation.
